Hampshire’s Music Service sings Happy Birthday to Captain Tom

In recognition of the, now famous, ‘Walk for the NHS’ by Captain Tom Moore, as he reaches his 100th birthday, county choir members, singers and instrumentalists from Hampshire County Council’s Music Service have produced a musical tribute – with each contributor recording their part, individually, at home

The music video compilation will be shared on social media and will feature a rousing performance of ‘The Wellesley March’ – the regimental march of the Duke of Wellington’s regiment of which Captain Tom was a member - and the singing of both ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow’.
Councillor Roz Chadd, Executive Member for Education and Skills at Hampshire County Council, said: “This musical tribute is a lovely idea and I am sure Captain Tom and his family will appreciate the gesture and good wishes that it conveys. We are very proud of our Music Service and the talented orchestral, brass, choral and other music ensembles which provide opportunities for Hampshire’s children and young people to grow in confidence in their musical abilities and performance skills.”
Happy Birthday Captain Tom’ by Hampshire Music Service, in which 84 musicians and singers participated, can be viewed on the Hampshire Music Service Facebook page from approximately 09:00 hours on Thursday 30 April 2020
