Hampshire County Council is set to invest up to £67 million in care technology over the next ten years to support the growing number of elderly people and younger adults with disabilities in Hampshire

Through a new contract with the Argenti Partnership, led by PA Consulting and including Medvivo and Red Alert, the Authority expects the number of adults using technology to help them to live more independently to grow significantly over the next decade, with some 20,000 new people set to benefit over the next five years alone.

Councillor Liz Fairhurst, Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health said: “This is a significant funding decision by the County Council, underlining our commitment to using technology to support vulnerable adults, both young and old, and our confidence in the improved quality of life it brings for those who need help.

“In building on and developing further our successful partnership arrangement with PA Consulting, one of the country’s leading providers of technology enabled care (TEC), it clearly signals our intention to further explore how technology can be used to provide cost-effective support to people in an ever-increasing number of ways, improving both quality of life and independence.”
As part of the new contract, a ‘private pay’ service will also be pursued. This will enable adults who do not qualify for adult social care support to purchase the wide range of proven care technology now available to the County Council’s social care clients. Third parties, including other local authorities and NHS partners, will also be able to buy TEC services from Hampshire.
Steve Carefull, a social care expert at innovation and transformation consultancy PA Consulting and the Argenti Programme Director in Hampshire, said: “We are proud to be continuing our relationship with Hampshire. Together, we have delivered some incredible results, helping thousands of people to live independently at home for longer, and in doing so we have changed the face of the care technology sector. Our success in the past five years in Hampshire is the perfect springboard for exploiting the next generation of digital technology, including voice assistants like Alexa and apps and robotics, to give people with care needs a more positive future.”
The partnership between Hampshire County Council and PA Consulting is recognised as industry leading in the use of technology in adult social care, both nationally and internationally.
This has been demonstrated most recently through the ‘world first’ trial of the use of Amazon’s Alexa voice activated technology to support adults with physical disabilities to continue living independently in their own homes.
The County Council’s new contract with PA Consulting is for five years, with the option to extend for a further five.
