Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council and Executive Member for Environment and Transport, said: "We are working in partnership with East Hampshire District Council and the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership to support the successful regeneration of Whitehill and Bordon. Following the completion of the new relief road, we are beginning a number of further transport improvements which will integrate new developments with the existing town, and are designed to encourage people to walk and cycle more.
"The Budds Lane improvements are part of this work and will provide access to the Mill Chase Academy which will be moving in to its new school buildings on Budds Lane in the summer. In time, these improvements will connect to an upgraded network of cycle and walking routes thanks to a successful funding bid to the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership."
While the works are carried out, Budds Lane will be closed temporarily from the access road at Enterprise Park to Mustangs, just before the entrance to the car park entrance, from Wednesday 5 June for around three weeks.
Councillor Humby continued: "The work along Budds Lane is being done in stages and we are working closely with the local community to ensure access is maintained at all times for the local school to use this car park. I apologise for any disruption that the works may cause but would like to reassure the local community that we will do all we can to keep any inconvenience to a minimum during this time."
Whilst the work along Budds Lane is under construction, a signed diversion will be in place. The diversion will be Camp Road, A325 relief road, Oakhanger Road.
The improvements to Budds Lane being carried out by Hampshire County Council include:
- Widening of the northern footway along the full length of Budds Lane to allow shared use by pedestrians and bicycles
- Introducing two zebra crossings and keeping the narrowing outside Bordon Infant School
- Construction of a mini-roundabout at the junction with the Whitehill & Bordon Enterprise Park
- The construction of a mini-roundabout at the junction of Budds Lane and Camp Road and the installation of a tiger crossing (zebra crossing with a cycle lane)
A safe walking route for those walking to Bordon Infant and Junior Schools, as well as access to local businesses, organisations, and residents will be maintained at all times during construction.
