Director of Children's ServicesThe Director of Children’s Services is responsible for the leadership, strategy and effectiveness of Children’s Services. They are responsible for securing the provision of services which address the needs of all children and young people, including the most disadvantaged and vulnerable, their families and carers.
Responsibilities (for both Hampshire County Council and the Isle of Wight Council):
- Securing the provision of services for children and young people, their families and carers.
- Safeguarding and protecting the most vulnerable children.
- Working with partners to promote educational excellence and supporting a diverse supply of strong schools, both mainstream and special.
- Providing fair access to all schools for every child and ensuring that all children can access school safely.
- Supporting young people to transition to adulthood and progress into employment through the Skills and Participation programme.
- Acting as Corporate Parent for looked after children.
- Working with partners, for example schools, healthcare and the police, to improve the well-being of children and young people.
- Providing equal access and enjoyment of the library service to provide trusted support for people throughout key stages of their lives.
- Providing a range of healthy, nutritious meals for school pupils across the county through Education Catering.
