Hampshire County Council have been in discussion with the local schools about a proposed change to the catchment area.
The new housing development on Land East of Dodwell Lane (Latitude) currently falls within the catchment area of The Hamble School. However, Wildern School is closer and its location means that there would be no need for families to cross the M27 to get there. Wildern Academy Trust will have the capacity to accommodate the number of children expected on the development. It is therefore proposed that the Hamble School catchment boundary should be redrawn to remove the Land East of Dodwell Lane where the development is situated and place it within Wildern School’s catchment area from September 2021 onwards.
Wildern Academy Trust, as the admission authority for Wildern School, have agreed in principle to this proposal and are carrying out their own consultation, available on their website, on a proposal to extend their catchment area to include the new development. Subject to the outcome of the consultations by Hampshire County Council and Wildern Academy Trust, both catchment changes would be implemented for school admissions from September 2021 onwards.
Transitional arrangements are also proposed by the County Council to mitigate the impact of this change for families currently living in the affected area with children already attending The Hamble School, as follows:
Children living in the affected area who have a sibling on roll at The Hamble School who was admitted when their address was still in the catchment area prior to it changing, and who will still be on roll at the time of the younger sibling’s admission, will be given catchment priority for admission to The Hamble School, up to and including admission in September 2024.
Subject to approval the catchment change will be implemented for September 2021 admissions. Should the catchment change be implemented all details will be updated in the schools admission policies and on Hampshire County Council web pages to reflect this change.
Any comments on these proposals should be sent to Mark Saunders, Strategic Development Officer, Children’s Services Department, Hampshire County Council, Elizabeth II Court North, The Castle, Winchester, SO23 8UG or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than 15 November 2019. Any comments received will be considered as part of the statutory consultation on admission arrangements which takes place between 04 December 2019 and 20 January 2020. A final decision which takes account of the statutory admissions consultation will be made by the Executive Member for Education in February 2020. Details of the statutory admissions consultation can also be viewed via this website.
