Short Break Activities Programme Consultation

Closed on

Hampshire County Council is seeking views on proposals for changes to the Short Break Activities Programme which, if agreed, would take effect from April 2021

The consultation has been extended until 12 July 2020.

This is an opportunity for people to inform decisions relating to the provision of Hampshire’s Short Break Activities Programme for children with disabilities.

The proposals have been carefully developed to deliver a programme of Short Break Activities that, subject to approval, would continue to provide short breaks for parents and carers, and fun, educational opportunities for the disabled children and young people that they care for.

Some of the proposals could help Children’s Services to make anticipated annual savings of up to £696,000. Other proposals are intended to improve the effectiveness of the Short Break Activities Programme.

Specialist services provided for children with assessed social care needs are not included in this consultation.

Before completing the online response form, people are strongly advised to read the Information Pack which provides the background to, and more detail on, the proposals. If you require a copy of the Information Pack or the Response Form in another language or alternative format (such as large print, audio or Braille), or if you have any queries about the consultation, please contact short.break@hants.gov.uk, or call: 0300 555 1384 (calls from a landline will be charged at the local rate although mobile phone charges may vary).

Your feedback matters

No decision will be made on any of these proposals, until people have had the opportunity to give their views. Feedback gathered from the consultation will be included in a report that will be considered by the Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services and Young People.

Drop-in sessions

Owing to the developing Covid-19 situation, Hampshire County Council had to cancel the previously planned drop-in sessions which were to be held at venues around the county. The two Facebook Live sessions with Hampshire Parent Carer Network on Tuesday 24 March and Tuesday 24 April were also cancelled. We apologise for the inconvenience cancelling these sessions may have caused.

We have worked to arrange alternative ways to enable face to face contact with us and provide people with an opportunity to ask questions about the consultation and proposals. A number of virtual open events have been set up, in collaboration with Hampshire Parent Carer Network (HPCN), and will take place via the Zoom application. Please see dates below and contact HPCN for the Zoom meeting details that will enable you to join in – email: participation@hpcn.org.uk or call 0300 303 4330. If you wish to join the National Autistic Society session, please email NASSouthHampshireBranch@nas.org.uk for details.

We have added a telephone session for people to ask questions about the consultation and proposals, on Friday 10 July 9am to 10am. To book on to this please email short.break@hants.gov.uk or call 0370 779 5186.
