Communications and brand resources
The Year of Health and Wellbeing is an important opportunity for all Hampshire 2050 partners to take a strategic and cross-disciplinary approach to enabling people and places to be healthy across Hampshire.
Whatever the activity/activities you (as one of the partners) plan to implement as an organisation, it will be important to ensure that you communicate both the intention and ask of colleagues/employees/other stakeholders to encourage participation and enable success.
Work with your communications team
As a first step, it is recommended that you work with your communications colleagues to develop a plan of communications activity to support your organisation’s implementation of the Year of Health and Wellbeing.
In planning, you should consider:
- why you want to communicate
- what you want to achieve via communications
- what you need to tell people to achieve your communications objectives
- who do you need to communicate to or with
- when you need to communicate
- how you will communicate, for example through:
- staff news on intranet
- e-bulletins
- posters (printed or electronic to be shared via email)
- staff events/networks
- community events/initiatives
- a dedicated Year of Health and Wellbeing section of intranet
- a website
- internal and external social media posts
- media releases
- blogs and vlogs
Messaging
All communications about your organisation’s activity to meet the Three Priorities for the year should make clear that the actions are in line with your organisation’s commitment to the Year of Health and Wellbeing as a member of the Hampshire 2050 Partnership.
In your communications you should explain the meaning of the Year of Health and Wellbeing and why your organisation is signed up to it.
The following content can be used within your communications or as a 'boilerplate' at the bottom of a press release or letterhead template. Further messaging, statistics, Director of Public Health quotes and some suggested awareness days have also been provided.
Boilerplate content
"[organisation name] is a member of the Hampshire 2050 Partnership which is working collectively, making the most of the combined skills and influence, to realise the Hampshire 2050 Vision."
"At the Partnership’s first summit, 'improving health and wellbeing' was voted the top priority issue. 2024/25 has been therefore designated as the Year of Health and Wellbeing, acting now to achieve the vision of a healthy and prosperous Hampshire in 2050. This Year of Health and Wellbeing will showcase how the diverse range of Hampshire 2050 partners can take action in three priority areas (Physical Activity, Mental Wellbeing and Childhood Obesity), to improve health and wellbeing within their own organisation and encourage external stakeholders to make healthy lifestyle choices."
Additional messaging
Examples include:
- "As a Hampshire 2050 Partner, we’re playing an active role in supporting the health, wellbeing, productivity and prosperity of Hampshire, not just in 2024/25 but for years to come."

Mental wellbeing messaging
Examples include:
- "The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the number of UK adults rating their life satisfaction as low has increased since 2018"

Language
The language we use matters. You should use plain English and avoid acronyms, but provide explanation of those if they are used.
The Person-First Language Guide aims to help everyone communicate in ways that reduce stigma and promote open, non-judgemental conversations. It covers drugs and alcohol, domestic abuse, mental health and wellbeing and suicide prevention.
Importantly, you should use the phrase ‘mental wellbeing’ and not ‘mental health’.
Lastly, you should consider the audience you are communicating with and tailor your communications appropriately for that audience; whether it’s business stakeholders, employees, customers, clients or local community groups.
Communications assets
Identity
A Year of Health and Wellbeing identity has been created, which can be used in your communications about activity you are undertaking to achieve any or all of the three identified priorities.
For example; this could be used as an image alongside a staff news bulletin item, or alongside your organisation’s logo on a letterhead or press release template.

General quotes
General quotes relating to the Year of Health and Wellbeing:
- "It is critical to take action now to improve physical activity, mental wellbeing and childhood obesity so that people are less susceptible to ill-health and long-term medical conditions and can live longer, healthier lives and enjoy a better quality of life. I’m delighted that, collectively, the Hampshire 2050 Partnership is leading the way through the ‘Year of Health and Wellbeing’. Taking steps now and embedding those actions beyond just one year is essential, however, if we are to reduce inequalities and to achieve long-lasting improvements for Hampshire’s health and wellbeing."
- "We know actions that improve the health of the population will also have a positive impact on economic prosperity, enabling people to have productive and independent lives, as well as reducing demand for health and social care."
Physical activity quotes
Quotes relating to the physical activity priority of the Year of Health and Wellbeing:
- "Regularly raising our heart rate and moving in a way that makes us out of breath can reduce our risk of major illnesses such as heart disease, stroke and respiratory illness by up to 50%. Moving more reduces demand for, and dependence on, health and social care provision and supports people to remain active and productive as they age."
Cycling
- “Cycling is a great way to boost your mood and improve your health. There are ways to build up your confidence if you are starting to cycle regularly on the road.
- "Being physically inactive costs the UK £7billion annually"
- "Planning your route, going for test rides at the weekend and speaking to seasoned cyclists can help you feel more self-assured. And swapping even a few short car trips for the bike, or walking if you prefer, can make all the difference to your health and wellbeing, so it’s worth trying."
- "Check out the Life's Better by Bike website which has lots of useful content for both those new to cycling as well as seasoned cyclists."
Mental wellbeing quotes
Quotes relating to the mental wellbeing priority of the Year of Health and Wellbeing:
- "Taking care of our mental wellbeing is imperative to maintaining good health overall. One way we can do this is by being active and taking notice of the small things around us - two of the five proven ways to support positive wellbeing. So, taking even gentle exercise, such as a walk in the outdoors can be effective and help us to be physically healthy too."
- "Regularly raising our heart rate and moving in a way that makes us out of breath can help reduce our risk of depression by 30%. Moving more reduces demand for, and dependence on, health and social care provision and supports people to remain active and productive as they age."
- "If mental wellbeing is less good, this can be work-limiting and, therefore a significant risk to people’s lifetime employment and health outcomes and, ultimately, their quality of life."
Childhood obesity quotes
Quotes relating to the childhood obesity priority of the Year of Health and Wellbeing:
- "We must do all we can to tackle childhood obesity as well as help children maintain a healthy weight and avoid becoming obese to give them the best chance of enjoying good physical health and mental wellbeing in adult life – reducing the risk of depression, heart disease, stroke, diabetes and some cancers when they are older."
