SHEPHERDS DOWN SPECIAL SCHOOL, WINCHESTER - ENLARGEMENT
Hampshire County Council is proposing to increase the Agreed Pupil Number (APN) of Shepherds Down Special School, Winchester by adding 20 places. This will give an updated APN for the school of 190 pupils from 1 September 2024.

1. Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, that Hampshire County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to SHEPHERDS DOWN SPECIAL SCHOOL, Shepherds Lane, Compton, Winchester, SO21 2AJ (category of school – community special school) by increasing the capacity of the school with effect from 1 September 2024.
2. The current Agreed Pupil Number (APN) for Shepherds Down Special School, Winchester is 170 pupils aged 4-11 year olds with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). It is proposed to increase the APN of the school by adding 20 places. This will give an updated APN for the school of 190 pupils from 1 September 2024. The school is successfully meeting the needs of children with a range of difficulties in a safe and secure environment. The proposal is to enlarge the school with effect from 1 September 2024.
3. The capital cost of this project was included in the Children’s Services Capital Programme report approved by Executive Lead Member for Children’s Services on 19 January 2024. The proposal is to provide a two-classroom modular building, additional parking and traffic flow improvements.
