PROPOSAL TO EXPAND HEATHFIELD SPECIAL SCHOOL, FAREHAM, FROM SEPTEMBER 2024
Heathfield Special School caters for primary pupils with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD). All pupils have an EHCP plan. It is proposed to expand Heathfield Special School, Fareham initially by 10 places for children and young people with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD) from 2 September 2024, with a further increase of up to a maximum of 10 further pupils in 2025.

1. Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, that Hampshire County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to HEATHFIELD SPECIAL SCHOOL, Oldbury Way, Fareham PO14 3BN (category of school – Community Special School) with effect from 2 September 2024.
2. Heathfield Special School caters for primary pupils with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD). All pupils have an EHCP plan. It is proposed to expand Heathfield Special School, Fareham initially by 10 places for children and young people with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD) from 2 September 2024, with a further increase of up to a maximum of 10 further pupils in 2025.
3. The current capacity of Heathfield Special School is 130 places. The proposal is to increase this to meet the needs of up to 20 additional primary aged pupils - thereby increasing the schools agreed pupil number from 130 to 140 from September 2024 and up to 150 by September 2025.
4. The capital cost of this project is £93,000 and was included in the Children's Services Capital Programme report approved by Executive Lead Member for Children's Services on 14 May 2024. This funding provides for two classrooms, improvements to adjacent areas and relocate the teachers' planning spaces. The proposed works will take place in August 2024.
