MAPLE RIDGE SCHOOL, BASINGSTOKE – INCREASE OF AGREED PUPIL NUMBER

Hampshire County Council plans to increase the capacity of Maple Ridge School in Basingstoke by 10 places, starting in September 2025, to meet the high demand for school places for children with severe learning difficulties. The project will cost £1.9 million and includes refurbishing existing classrooms and installing new modular units.

1. Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, that Hampshire County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to MAPLE RIDGE SCHOOL Maple Crescent, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21 5SX (category of school – Community Special School) with effect from September 2025.

2. The School currently has capacity for 100 pupils aged 4 -11 and caters for pupils with moderate learning difficulties (MLD) and severe learning difficulties (SLD). It is proposed to increase the overall places by 10 from September 2025.

3. The proposal to increase the pupil numbers at Maple Ridge School is required to meet the high demand for school places for children with severe learning difficulties. The proposal to enlarge the school will take effect from 1 September 2025. 

4. The estimated capital cost for this project is £1.9 million and is included in the Children’s Services Capital Programme report approved by Executive Lead Member for Children’s services on 22 January 2025. It is required to refurbish two current double modular classrooms in order to continue to provide a safe and quality learning environment. A further double modular will be installed to allow for the additional pupils. A single classroom unit will also be installed to aid decant during the refurbishment works and be retained to use for therapy spaces to support all pupils. This will re-provide existing school places and create 10 additional places for pupils.
