PROPOSAL TO ESTABLISH A RESOURCED PROVISION FOR PUPILS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM CONDITIONS (ASC) AT NEWTOWN CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL, GOSPORT FROM SEPTEMBER 2025
Hampshire County Council plans to establish a Resourced Provision for up to 10 pupils with autism at Newtown Church of England Primary School in Gosport, starting in September 2025. This will be phased over two years and will not affect the school's overall capacity of 420 mainstream places. The project will provide specialist support and accommodation for pupils with complex autism needs, utilizing surplus accommodation and creating a secure play area.

1. Notice is hereby given, in accordance with Section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006, that Hampshire County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to NEWTOWN CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL Queen's Road, Gosport, Hampshire, PO12 1JD (category of school – Voluntary Controlled School) with effect from September 2025.
2. The current capacity of Newtown Church of England Primary School is 420. The proposal is to establish a Resourced Provision to meet the needs of up to 10 pupils with autism, opening in phases over two years from September 2025. Newtown CE Primary School admitted 8 pupils with complex autism needs in September 2024 and this proposal will allow those pupils to be given specialist support and accommodation for their learning needs.
3. This proposal will not affect the overall capacity of mainstream places at Newtown Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School.
4. The capital cost of this project, £75,000, was included in the Children's Services Capital Programme report approved by the Executive Lead Member for Children's Services in January 2025. It is proposed to reconfigure and repurpose surplus accommodation at the school to provide a base for the Resourced Provision, create a secure external play area and provide specialist resources.
