Highways – Permanent Traffic Order Notices from Hampshire County Council in Winchester area

THE HAMPSHIRE (TOWER STREET, WINCHESTER) (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) ORDER 2025

 

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Hampshire County Council made the above-mentioned Order on Tuesday 18th March 2025, in exercise of its powers and duties under Sections 9 and 10(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”) and of all other enabling powers, after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act and having discharged its duty under section 122 of the Act.

 

The general nature and effect of the Order: Will be to make permanent “The Hampshire (Tower Street, Winchester) (Experimental Prohibition of Driving) (No. 2) Order 2023” order which will prohibit driving on Tower Street between its junction with Jewry Street and its junction with Staple Gardens, an approximate distance of 32.6 metres.

 

DATE OF OPERATION: The order will come into force on Saturday 29th March 2025.

 

FURTHER DETAILS: A copy of this notice, the order as made, a map showing the location and effects of the scheme, a statement of reasons and the order to be revoked may be viewed at  https://www.hants.gov.uk/community/publicnotices/?typeid=5 or inspected during the usual office hours at the following places:

 

(i)        The Arc, Jewry Street, Winchester SO23 8SB (Opening hours: Mondays to Saturdays 9.30 - 17 and Sundays 11 – 17)

(ii)       Customer Services, Winchester City Council, Colebrook Street, Winchester SO23 9LJ (Opening hours: Mondays to Thursdays 8.30 – 17 and Fridays 8.30 – 16.30)

(iii)      Hampshire County Council Headquarters, The Castle, Winchester, SO23 8UD (Opening hours: Mondays to Thursdays 8.30 – 17.15; Fridays 8.30 – 16.45)

(iv)      Copies of the Notice of Making and the Order as made can also be obtained by e-mailing [email protected] or by writing to Traffic Orders Team, Safer Roads and Parking, Universal Services, The Castle, Winchester SO23 8UD quoting reference : A1064/KK

 

APPLICATION TO THE HIGH COURT: Any person desiring to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the relevant powers of the Act, or that any of the relevant requirements of the Act or of any relevant instrument made thereunder has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, by Tuesday 29th April 2025 make application for the purpose to the High Court.
