Choosing sustainably: Purchasing catering equipment for our kitchens

A framework of suppliers selected with green credentials in mind

For Education Catering, creating a sustainable supply chain:

  • reduces sourcing risks
  • protects brand reputation
  • has a positive impact on the environment and our customers

Our equipment suppliers are all contracted by County Supplies, who apply a set of Sustainable Purchasing Objectives. As part of the tender process, we ask all suppliers listed on the Light and Commercial Catering Equipment contract to supply evidence their organisation:

  • is environmentally proactive
  • supports local sourcing
  • actively aims to reduce carbon emissions and other negative environmental effects

Their responses detail:

  • the types of materials used (for goods and any outer packaging)
  • the organisation’s environmental policy
  • any environmental credentials in relation to the products tendered for

All suppliers awarded the contract have ‘satisfactory’ to ‘excellent' responses for sustainability.

So, when choosing equipment for our kitchens, we already know the suppliers we use share our environmental ethos.
