Apprenticeships with Hampshire County Council Catering Services

Apprenticeships are no longer just for school leavers. Recent changes to the way that apprenticeships are managed by government mean that anybody can now take up an apprenticeship and retrain for a new career.

Whilst a catering qualification is not essential for catering assistant positions, employers tend to look more favourably on candidates with a qualification. Under our new scheme, we consider apprenticeship roles for a number of catering assistant vacancies.

How it works

Under this scheme, rather than a permanent contract on lower hours, the role becomes a fixed term contract, with more hours, for the duration of the qualification (up to 2 years). Extra hours are allocated for training to become qualified as a hospitality team member. This training may be through day-release to a local college or via distance learning with regular assessor meetings.

At the end of the fixed term contract you will have a recognised catering qualification and be in a better position to progress, either with Education Catering or further afield.
