A smooth path to working with Education Catering

Our dedicated induction programme launched in 2022 has proven that staff joining us feel better supported before they undertake their role in the kitchen. There are seven elements to the mandatory training which ensures new starters feel more confident once they enter the kitchen and the whole introduction to working with us is more seamless. The programme is run by our own training team who fully support new staff all the way.

Progress in your career

We encourage those who want to progress to undertake the training they'll need to go further. We offer opportunities to develop your career with Education Catering. We run an internal professional skills programme based on the LACA professional standards framework. The programme offers development for staff at all stages of employment within Education Catering, ensuring we have staff that are enthusiastic and confident enough to be able to progress when they want to and when an opportunity arises.

If you are joining us as a Unit Manager/ Chef Manager you will need to have a minimum of a NVQ level 2 catering related qualification or equivalent, along with experience of working in a commercial catering environment.

All catering roles are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Programme content

Designed to give staff the skills and confidence to be able to successfully run a kitchen, and covers:

  • Customer Care
  • Introduction to Supervision
  • Kitchen administration and IT.

Designed to build on the skills, knowledge and behaviour learnt in step one and further develops staff Management and skills.

Builds further on the skills previously learnt and is for more senior managers.

The training we provide

For staff looking to progress their career we offer our Professional Skills Programme, a range of courses designed to help you develop your skills and progress in the organisation.

Bespoke training

We are a registered centre for Highfield Qualifications, a top 5 awarding organisation in the UK. We deliver the Level 2 and Level 3 Food Safety in Catering qualification and the Level 2 Award in Food Allergen Awareness and Control in Catering.

Our in-house training team provide these courses to a range of external organisations. All our food safety and allergen risk courses can be delivered within the workplace.
