I’m Laura and I have never written a blog before. Aside from Facebook which I mostly use to be nosey and post my holiday photos, I very rarely post on social media. As a 21 year old I feel like I am definitely the minority, so I thought I would give blogging a bash!
Here goes nothing is an inspired and very fitting title for this blog. At the beginning of the year I gave up my dream job as a Teaching Assistant to undertake a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Business Administration. I know what you are thinking ‘why on earth would you do that?’
Well, my career came to a standstill and, after considering (for the second time) going to university to become an actual teacher, the thought of spending four more years in education and ending with a mammoth debt I (again) decided wasn’t for me.
So I decided it was time for a complete career make over. I applied for a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Business Administration at my local Registration Office not thinking much of it because I had zero experience in administration and didn’t know much about business either.
By some kind of miracle I was invited to an interview and managed to get the job! Everything moved very quickly from that point and with another here goes nothing approach I handed in my resignation. The second January soon came around and it was my first day!
I’m not going to lie I was very unsure as to what I was letting myself in for. At the time I was 20 and thought that I was too old to be an apprentice. The thought of all of my friends who were secure in their careers already and I was starting all over again. But, with another here goes nothing I threw all of my energy and effort into my apprenticeship and my new job!
Now, here I am in July and I am loving the variety that the job and apprenticeship bring me. I have learnt, and am still learning, such a wide range of skills. No day is ever the same and each time I deal with a query or customer that I have not yet come across I feel that I am really progressing. The here goes nothing approach has really turned into something great!
I would even go as far to say that I have now got some secure experience with administration and I know quite a bit about business!
