The Kickstart Scheme
A national £2bn scheme to offer hundreds of thousands of young people job opportunities
- The details
The Kickstart Scheme provides funding to create new job placements for 16 to 24 year olds claiming Universal Credit who are at risk of long term unemployment.
- 100% of the National Minimum Wage (or the National Living Wage depending on the age of the participant) paid for a minimum of 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months
- The funding also includes associated employer National Insurance contributions and employer minimum automatic enrolment contributions
- The scheme is open for applications until the end of December 2021. The employer will also receive a grant to cover set up and other related costs such as equipment, DBS checks, training, careers guidance to support the young person.
- Kickstart at Hampshire County Council
We have committed to provide a minimum of 30 direct Kickstart placements across our organisation, starting between November 2020 and December 2021. We will also support other public sector employers from specific sectors in Hampshire who want to employ young people through the Kickstart scheme but offer less than 30 places each.
- Other employers
The Kickstart Scheme is available to most businesses across the UK so there will be lots of exciting opportunities across different industries that young people will be able to apply for until December 2021.
- How to apply
Whether you want to work at Hampshire County Council or get experience with other local businesses through the Kickstart Scheme, you should register your interest with your Job Coach at your local Job Centre Plus.
