Introducing Hampshire Music Service’s first summer music programme, ‘Get Musical!’, a week of musical theatre workshops building to a Friday evening show, followed by a week of exciting instrumental and vocal workshops to introduce young people to all sorts of new instruments and styles.
Run by experienced HMS teachers and industry professionals, ‘Get Musical!’ offers something fun and new to young people aged 5-17, in a supportive and friendly environment.
Musical Theatre Week
12-16 August, 10am-4pm, Friday evening performance, Wildern School Hedge End
£135 per person
Musical Theatre Juniors week is for all children in who are in school years 2-6 for the academic year 2018-19. Repertoire for the week will include numbers from hit shows ‘Matilda’ and ‘School of Rock’, ending in a performance on the Friday evening where participants can show family and friends the new singing, dancing and acting skills they have learnt. The week will be run by industry professional Jack Shaw-Downie, supported by experienced teachers and HMS staff. This is a wonderful opportunity to build confidence and make new friends. No prior experience is needed, just lots of enthusiasm!
Musical Theatre Seniors week is for young people in school years 7-12 for the academic year 2018-19. Repertoire for the week is not yet confirmed but will include numbers from several hit shows, new and old. No experience is required, we welcome anyone who loves to sing, act or dance! This week will be run by Kerry Kenward, HMS teacher and experienced musical theatre performer, and will suit both those with no experience and those looking to hone their skills and gain valuable performance experience. This would be a valuable opportunity for anyone thinking about studying performing arts at GCSE, college or further.
Instrumental and Vocal Week
19-23 August, 10am-4pm, Wildern School Hedge End
£115 per person per week, £25 per person per day (participants can attend single days or the whole week)
The mini musician sessions are open to children age 5-7. Each day, participants will get to try out something different. These workshops will include singing, percussion, ukulele, mini Taiko and more. Run by experienced HMS teachers with additional support from HMS staff, participants will be able to explore new instruments, techniques and musical styles in a fun and relaxed environment.
These sessions are for children age 7-11. Participants will try out a range of instruments in short, fun workshops and get the opportunity to build on their skills throughout the day. Instruments on offer include brass, woodwind, strings, samba, gamelan and more. Run by experienced HMS teachers with additional support from HMS staff, the workshops will offer the chance to explore new instruments, techniques and musical styles. For those participants already learning one of the instruments offered, the teacher running the session will tailor activities to accommodate all levels of ability.
