Hampshire County Council Catering Services (HC3S)
Catering services for schools, venues, workplaces and attractions - serving 67,800 meals across 496 sites each day
Will you pledge to #SayYesToSuccess and make the most of your child’s lunch with a nutritious school meal?
We believe school lunch is a fantastic way for children to share the experience of trying new foods. Knowing that your child is having a healthy, delicious meal every day is one less thing for you to worry about.
Food to Flourish
Our nutritious school lunch helps children flourish by giving them the right balance of nutrients and energy to enhance concentration during afternoon lessons, in assembly or on the sports field. It contributes to building lifelong healthy eating habits that will allow them to flourish as their minds and bodies grow.
Our Food to Flourish Classroom is a suite of curriculum-based free teaching resources for our schools to use to engage pupils with healthy food.
We’re Brexit ready
As the Brexit Transition edges closer we want to reassure our schools and parents that we are continuing to work closely with our suppliers on Brexit preparations to ensure there is as little disruption to your catering service as possible. We are putting robust and comprehensive plans in place to support our customers and overcome any challenges for when we leave the EU.
See how HC3S and our suppliers are prepared
We proudly purchase a large amount of British produce including meat, cheese, flour and eggs, with 70% of our top 50 items purchased in our basket of goods all being British. As you would expect, our fish is sourced from outside the EU. We have arrangements in place to ensure continuity of service, such as moving to a frozen product or purchasing from outside of the EU.
Our greengrocers have been sourcing UK produce to replace any products which may be difficult to source. As we already source the majority of our fresh produce from within the UK, we expect little disruption to the supply chain. The products we are unable to source from within the UK have either been replaced with an alternative or we have worked with suppliers to establish new import routes via different ports. Most of our suppliers have committed to fix pricing for at least the first three months of 2021.
Our largest supplier, Bidfood, has also recently completed a large new warehouse development in Salisbury, creating more storage space for our regular items so the amount of shipments can be managed more sustainably. Suppliers in their supply chain are also building and holding additional levels of stock, which extends the overall stock cover and gives confidence maintaining continuity of supply. Bidfood has been reviewing potential alternative sources of supply, with particular focus on UK products.
In addition, HC3S have been working on an ongoing project to move to more British sourced produce.
We have contingency plans in place to ensure that schools see minimal disruption. Therefore, if there is cause to make slight changes to the menu, we can assure you that all avenues have been explored to minimise this.
