- Primary menu
From 1 June we will be offering a two-course cold lunch menu to all our primary schools. The menu follows the Government’s School Food Plan and remains a third of a child’s daily calorie intake. We currently have good weather, and this allows more flexibility for schools to maintain social distancing as some children can eat outside in the fresh air.
The safety of children is of paramount importance, and the cold menu allows our schools to provide a healthy, tasty, nutritious lunch for your child while giving schools and our teams flexibility as they continue to provide a lunch service during these challenging times. Children who are registered with us as needing a medical special diet will also have a cold lunch as the variety of options caters for this.
Our cold lunch menu includes:
- A filled sandwich, roll, bap or, cream crackers with cheese spread
- An added element such as pasta salad, cheese straw, sausage roll or home-made hummus
- Vegetable sticks or salad
- Fresh fruit
- Dessert of the day
We’re supporting all our schools on an individual basis and will continually review our lunch service in collaboration with each leadership team to meet their needs.
Children who receive free school meals, plus vulnerable and key worker children will still be catered for when schools start their phased return. Please speak with your school for further details about their school menu.

- Special diets
We can still provide special diets for pupils with allergies who want to have a cold school lunch. Special diets are provided for pupils with a medical problem, not just a dislike of certain food. Medical evidence confirming the child's allergy will be required. Visit our special diets page to find out more.
