Amanda Whatley – Business Development Manager, HC3S
“HC3S is delighted to hold our first innovative schools’ writing competition to support literacy in schools in combination with discussion about the environment which we know so many of our pupils are passionate about. Personally, words and the images they evoke are invaluable, whether they are a lyric, a play or a story. As a school governor for many years with a focus on literacy, I believe that if you can teach a child to read and write, the world is their oyster. Literacy, food and the planet go hand in hand in the developed world and are essential ingredients for our future.
My favourite current children’s author is Michael Morpurgo who often sets his heart-rending stories in my favourite holiday destination, Devon, but I also love Astrid Lindgren who created the hilarious Pippi Longstocking series about a girl with a nose like a potato and hair like carrots.”
