Marion - 40 years at Wallop Primary School

Marion started working as a catering assistant on a ten hour contract at Wallop Primary School back in November 1977.

Her role was to prepare home-made puddings such as treacle tart, apple pie and syrup sponges. Marion has fond memories of all the “naughty food” that was produced back then as well as the bounty of cakes that were made for school fetes.

Marion Gates

After the retirement of Jessie, who had been the cook at Wallop for over 32 years, Marion became the cook supervisor in the 2000. This makes Marion one of only two cooks that Wallop Primary have had in 60 years!

Marion still enjoys her job, and is now seeing the children of the children who were at the school many years previously. She has no intention of retiring yet.

She is not only a valid member of the HC3S team but the staff and the school treat her like extended family.

Martin, who only was a small boy when Marion joined the school, says:

"Marion is an absolute treasure here at Wallop. All the children and staff love her and her cooking. We are so lucky to have her with us feeding Wallop Primary School since 1977."

Nikki - Thornden School

Nikki completed her apprenticeship in October 2016. She studied the Intermediate Apprenticeship in Catering and Professional Chefs at Eastleigh College and was based at Manor Farm, one of Hampshire’s Country Parks.

Nikki has flourished since being given the HC3S to develop her practical and interpersonal skills with HC3S. Following completion of her apprenticeship, she was offered employment with HC3S as a mobile cook.

Within a few months after the completion of her apprenticeship Nikki was successful in becoming the permanent deputy unit manager at Thornden School, one of the busiest secondary school units operated by HC3S.

“I love being part of the team and working at Thornden in the very busy kitchen. Each day is different and I am learning more and more to develop further.”

Kim - Serving great food

Since joining HC3S three years ago, Kim has had roles varying from Servery Assistant and Mobile Cook, to her current role as Cook Supervisor at Berewood Primary School.

Kim Foster

“To be able to provide healthy, tasty food to children is very rewarding. A balanced diet that the children love to eat is great.

"No two days are the same and neither are the children; from shy to extravagant, but all ready with a smile and a thank you. I am very fortunate to do a job that I love.”
