County RE Centre artefact collections for loan

Available on loan to subscribers of the RE Centre

These pages contain our artefact boxes available on loan to schools and the terms and conditions of loan. Where there is more than one box for a topic, the contents may vary slightly but should include:

  • planning according to Living Difference IV, the Agreed Syllabus for Hampshire, Southampton, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight
  • artefacts relevant to the topic
  • books – stories and information
  • posters
  • DVDs (where available) or advice on where to find classroom clips

In order to avoid disappointment, early booking is recommended, as some boxes are term-specific and get very booked up.

Hiring artefact boxes

To order resources, complete the Curriculum Centre order form

Payment

Hampshire maintained schools: by providing your school cost code, SIO (if applicable) and GL code on your order, you authorise Centre staff to recharge your school account for your order.

Non-Hampshire maintained schools such as academies and those within Southampton and Portsmouth will receive an invoice.

Booking

Artefact boxes may be provisionally reserved by telephone or email. Provisional bookings must be confirmed by completion of an online booking form within 10 working days. This form authorises payment on despatch of the box.

Charges

The loan hire charge is £25 for a three week loan (applicable to subscribers to the RE Centre). For non-subscribing schools, the rate will be £60 for a three week loan. The loan will be charged at the start of the loan period.

Cancellation

Loans cancelled with less than 3 weeks' notice are charged at 50% loan fee plus £5 administration charge. Loans that are no longer required but have not been cancelled will be charged in full.

Damaged and missing items

Check the contents list of the artefact box carefully on delivery and advise the RE Centre of any damaged or missing articles within 48 hours of receipt. We reserve the right to charge the school for replacement of any damaged or lost items.

Returns

The artefact box must be carefully packed, clearly addressed, sealed and returned via the school's courier collection service to arrive at the RE Centre by the date quoted on the booking letter included in the box. We must insist on prompt return or other borrowers will be inconvenienced. Additional charges will be levied for late return.

Many artefacts included in our boxes are fragile and irreplaceable. While we appreciate that normal wear and tear will take place in the handling of these items in a classroom situation, we ask that they are treated with respect, carefully handled and re-packaged appropriately for return using the courier service. We suggest sticking a Fragile: handle with care note on the box for its return journey. Box lids should always be taped down.

Age suitability of topic boxes

Schools have indicated that is useful to have a wide range of material to choose from in our topic boxes. All our boxes are produced with resources for teaching Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

If you are in an infant or junior school, not all the contents will be age-appropriate.
