This information is for Hillingdon pensioner members only.

What is changing?

Your pension pay date will be changed from the 15th of each month to the end of each month, with the change implemented from your December payment onwards.

Why is the pay date being changed?

This change is necessary to match the payroll dates with the existing Hampshire Pension Services (HPS) payment schedule.

Will this change mean I receive less pension?

No. However, you will receive an additional 1/2 month pension in November to align with the change. This payment will carry you through until the end of December and will reflect the pension you are entitled to for the period of 16th October to 30th November 2021.

When is my pension being paid over the next few months?

Your first payment from Hampshire Pension Services - The first payment will be on 15th October 2021. This covers the period from 16 September to 15 October.

Next payment - The next payment will be on 15th November 2021. You will receive a payment covering 16th October to 30th November in this instance. The extra 1/2 a month pension is to carry you through to 31st December 2021  when the payment changes to the end of the month.

The table below provides a summary of payment dates.

Payment Date Pay Period  Months' Pay  Administration Provider

 15 September

 16 Aug - 15 Sep  1 Month  Surrey
 15 October  16 Sep - 15 Oct  1 Month  Hampshire
 15 November  16 Oct - 30 Nov  1.5 Months  Hampshire
 31 December  1 Dec - 31 Dec  1 Month  Hampshire

How will this impact my tax payments?

Your pension will be calculated in accordance with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) tax regulations to ensure the pension you receive for the period is accurate and correct. The amount of income tax is determined by the tax code applied to your pension by HMRC. By law we must apply the tax codes provided to us directly from HMRC. If you think that your code is incorrect, please contact HMRC on 0300 200 3300.

HMRC will inform us of the correct code once they have made their assessment. Any under or over payment of tax will be collected through the payroll if the correct code is received in the current tax year.

What if I have payments going out of my account in line with my current pay date?

If you currently have direct debit or standing order payments leaving your bank between the 15th and the end of the month you may wish to consider amending the date to after the last working day of the month to align with the new pay date.

How will I know if what I am being paid each month is correct?

We will send you a paper payslip for the first month we pay you. You should compare this with your last payslip from Surrey County Council to make sure the amount is correct. If your pension has recently come into payment the amount you received for October may not match the amount you were paid in September.

If you have any queries about the amount you are paid for October, please contact us unless it is about the tax code. If you think your code is incorrect, please contact HMRC on 0300 200 3300.

We will also send you a paper payslip for your November pay. This payment will be larger than usual as it covers a longer period. You will also receive a paper payslip for your December pay do you can see that your normal monthly payment is being made.

After this you will no longer automatically receive a paper payslip but you can always check your payslip online by registering for our Member Portal. You will be able to print a copy from the Member Portal at any time if needed.

To register for the Member Portal, visit: https://upmliveportal.hants.gov.uk

If you want to opt out of electronic communications, you will need to send us an opt out request in writing. We will then send you a paper payslip in April and May each year, as well as a paper copy of your P60.

I am a new Hillingdon pensioner since 15 October, how will this change affect me?

In the past Hillingdon pensions were paid on 15th of each month. This will continue until 15 November, when the last mid-month payment is made. Then the payment date will move to the end of the month, with the December payment due on 31 December.

The pension paid on 15 November will cover the period from 16 October (or the day after your retirement date) to 30 November. The extra 1/2 a month's pension will carry you through to the end of month payment day of 31 December 2021.
