Receiving secure encrypted email
How to open an encrypted email
We have moved from Mimecast to the built-in Microsoft Outlook tool to protect the information we send.
Emails will still be secure but will look slightly different to the recipient.

-
Please note. From 30 November 2019, recipients who have previously received secure email using the Mimecast portal will no longer be able to access them via the Mimecast portal. As with all secure email we recommend they are downloaded somewhere suitable before this time.
Emails will still be secure but will look slightly different to the recipient. The email will have a notification saying the email has been encrypted. Below are some examples of the type of email the recipient will see and guidance on how to open them.
Email 1
If you receive a secure email like the one below you will need to save and open the attachment (either download or double click the attachment and follow the instructions).
If you open the attachment without saving you will receive a message saying 'you do not have permission to open the message or to view the message on your computer, save and open the attachment'.
Once the email is saved and opened, please select how you'd like to sign in to read the message. If your email provider is Google, Yahoo, or Microsoft, you can select Sign in with Google, Yahoo, or Microsoft respectively. Otherwise, select sign in with a one-time passcode.
If you select a one-time passcode you will receive the passcode in an email message. Make a note of the passcode, then return to the web page where you requested the passcode and enter the passcode, and select continue. If you tick the Keep me signed in for 12 hours any further emails from this user will not require you to enter the passcode for the next 12 hours.
Email 2
Select Read the message.
Select how you'd like to sign in to read the message. If your email provider is Google, Yahoo, or Microsoft, you can select Sign in with Google, Yahoo, or Microsoft respectively. Otherwise, select sign in with a one-time passcode.
Once you receive the passcode in an email message, make a note of the passcode, then return to the web page where you requested the passcode and enter the passcode, and select continue.
