There is a wide variety of classroom-based roles, including (but not limited to):
- Classroom, Learning Support or Teaching Assistants
- Cover Supervisor
- Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA)
- Pupil Welfare Assistants
- Special Needs Assistants
All of these roles involve directly supporting the work of the class teacher and have an important impact on pupil’s learning and on their day-to-day school experience. They are rewarding roles in themselves, and they can also be an invaluable step to becoming a teacher.
Hampshire’s Teaching & Leadership College (HTLC) offers development opportunities and qualifications for classroom support staff, including the HTLA qualification needed for this particular role.
See what one of our Classroom Assistants say about working in Hampshire
Never have I had a day where I haven’t enjoyed working with and developing young people in school. It is so rewarding to have an impact on a child’s life – watching them grow and improve is what keeps me coming back. I believe that key skills such as building relationships, determination and a good work ethic are all vital in making sure you are ready for the daily life that a teacher faces. However, every day I am learning something new from the children and love being challenged to improve them all the time. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else and in anywhere other than Hampshire.
