The English Civil War, with its contrasts between Cavaliers and Parliamentarians, continues to inspire fascination – and also horror at its human cost. This illustrated talk will show how a wealth of manuscript and printed resources from 1642 to 1660 survives, giving insights into the military campaigns within Hampshire and civilian life, including social, religious and administrative aspects, during the years of war and the Interregnum that followed.
The aim of the talk is not to tell the story of the Civil War in Hampshire, but to unveil the wealth of resources at Hampshire Record Office that you can use to discover it for yourself.
This is an online talk using Zoom. Participants will be required to download and use Zoom.
