Conducting oral histories with your older relatives can be a great way to learn more about your heritage. This new exhibition tells the story of Windrush Pioneer and Hampshire resident Aralda Beckford, who came to the UK in the 1950s from Jamaica in search of a new life.
In this Wessex Film and Sound Archive project, which has been funded by the British Film Institute awarding National Lottery funds, we have worked with volunteer Donna Beckford to support her on her family history research journey and in recording oral histories with her mother.
This fascinating pop-up exhibition in the foyer features a selection of objects from the Beckford family collection as well as audio clips as Aralda describes her experiences in her own words.
Opening dates/times: 9:30am Tuesday 17 September to 4pm Thursday 19 December during Hampshire Record Office opening hours.
