If you would like to bring moments of calm to your life, improve your levels of health and wellbeing then come and create some Art! This course covers the basics and you’ll be gently led through a series of activities.

The process of being creative can bring numerous health benefits and general feelings of wellbeing. Research shows that taking up a creative Art/Craft can help, amongst other things depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, insomnia and raising levels of happiness.

No previous knowledge is required, just lots of enthusiasm and a desire to have fun. This course will teach you how to embrace “mistakes” and “errors” and love them as they are: new opportunities! It will also teach you how to see beauty in unusual places.

Session 1: how to use Graphite (pencils). Beautiful trees
Session 2: how to work with colour pencils. Abstraction and feelings. Colour, shape and mood
Session 3: how to use Indian Ink and its possibilities. Painting a pair of old boots
Session 4: how to work with soft pastels and water. Creating a landscape
Session 5: how to use watercolour. Blanket on a chair

For the first session you will need to buy/bring:

  • A sketchbook – cartridge paper from 100gsm onwards if possible. You can also get mixed media paper. If you have a sketchbook or a watercolour pad at home gathering dust, this is the perfect time to get it out!
  • Pencils – graphite pencil. You can use whatever you have at home. If you want to purchase some you can buy a set of graphite pencils – or just buy one or two – a 4B, 6B should be perfect
  • Eraser & sharpener
  • Scissors
  • A brush
  • A board (not a must but is helpful)
