Working at your own pace, this is an opportunity to learn how to use a pattern to produce a garment/toile of your choosing, whilst being in a friendly, classroom setting, with likeminded people.

The process of being creative can bring numerous health benefits and general feelings of wellbeing. Research shows that taking up Sewing can help, amongst other things depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, insomnia and raising levels of happiness.

This course is aimed at mixed ability Dressmaking although it is expected you can use the basic functions of a sewing machine. You will learn how to read patterns, make, and fit a toile and all about the different techniques required for your chosen garment construction. This course is practical and requires a degree of manual dexterity

By the end of the course you will be able to…

  • Lay out a pattern correctly, pin the pattern to the fabric (Layplan/costing) and cut out
  • Create a toile/garment
  • Adjust the pattern to fit
  • Use a sewing machine to sew the garment
  • Learn sewing techniques according to chosen pattern eg zip fastening
