Getting the most out of your local library

Your local library offers much more than you might think. Members have access to a wide range of on-demand services including eAudiobooks, digital comics, eBooks and online magazines. Visit our digital library for a full list of online resources.

Sheet music, play sets, CDs, DVDs, reading group collections and magazines are just a few of the physical items which you might not have known are available to borrow. Visit our services page to find out what else your library can do for you, or choose an option below to learn more about borrowing.


Library members can borrow up to 30 books at a time with no cost. The standard loan term is 28 days. After this, books can be renewed free of charge either online or in branch.

eComics gives you unlimited digital access to the top titles in comic books, especially your Marvel favourites. You can browse through our digital comic library and checkout your selections on any web-connected device.

Some Hampshire libraries have a selection of DVDs and CDs which you can borrow for up to seven days. Loans cost £1 or £2 depending on what is being borrowed. You can borrow up to seven DVDs at a time.

Reading group sets

Hampshire libraries offer over 1700 different reading group sets. Each set contains ten copies of a book. Follow the link below to browse the available reading group sets and find out more about registering your reading group.

Borrow language packs

Language packs

Language packs are a collection of resources designed to assist with learning a second language. Language packs can be borrowed for up to 28 days.

You can borrow up to 30 packs at a time. There is a £1 charge for each pack and overdue packs incur a charge of 20p a day late fee (to a maximum of £6 per item).


Libraries hold a range of magazines that can be borrowed by library members. You can borrow up to five magazines at a time.

Each magazine can be kept for up to seven days. Overdue magazines will be charged at 20p per day (to a maximum of £6).

eMagazines and newspapers

Your library membership includes free access to eMagazines and newspapers. By using the RBdigital app, you can download and read an unlimited number of magazines from the comfort of your home.

Music sets

Music scores can be borrowed individually just like any other item. Music sets for larger groups are available as part of a group membership. These include vocal scores, libretti and orchestral sets.
