Year of Elmer

Elmer the Patchwork Elephant
Year of Elmer with Hampshire Libraries

It’s Elmer the Patchwork Elephant’s 30th Birthday.

We love Elmer at Hampshire Libraries.

He reminds us that we love each other because of our differences and not in spite of them. We are going to spend 2019 celebrating Elmer’s birthday and celebrating everything that’s great about diversity.

We have special edition library cards for young members, loads of events and activities, along with competitions and story trails.

Join us in celebrating this very special elephant’s birthday and discovering what makes you unique.

Happy 30th Birthday Elmer Badge

Special edition children’s library cards

To celebrate our favourite patchwork elephant’s birthday, during February half-term we’re launching special Elmer library cards for young people who join the Hampshire Libraries in 2019. As you can see, one card features Elmer himself and one features Elmer’s unique patchwork pattern.

Any young person living or studying in Hampshire can join our library service. You can join in any Hampshire library branch, or join online if you are aged 16 or over.

  • If you’re already a member of Hampshire Libraries, you can get one of the special edition cards from your library for £1. New members will get them for free
  • If your membership has expired, you don't need to apply for a new card. Just visit your library to renew your membership
  • If you’ve lost your library card, visit your library to get a replacement for £1 charge
  • If you have a library card but don't know your PIN, you can get a PIN reminder
