Here at the School Library Service, our dedicated and experienced team work with schools in Hampshire and beyond to provide access to the very best library resources. We provide support to over 90% of Hampshire’s schools, making our SLS one of the largest and most successful services of its kind in the country.

Advice and support from the SLS team
Hampshire School Library Service provides an advisory service to schools on all library and literacy matters. Subscribers receive advice and practical support to promote and embed literacy across the curriculum. SLS will work with teachers and librarians to get the right book to the right child at the right time.
We have a range of resources including group sets, story sacks, sensory boxes and braille and giant print books. All subscribers can also use our eResources and eBook provision; working with our specialist IT advisory service to improve your library's digital offering. Subscribers also benefit from post-Ofsted support, staff training sessions and our regular Headteacher briefings.’
Loans and exchanges
The SLS loan and exchange service provides excellent value for money, helping you to keep your offering fresh while minimising spend. Our wide range of group sets cover all age groups and have been specifically selected to support the curriculum. They include a wide variety of book sets for reading groups and guided reading, as well as collections for SEN schools.
Schools can exchange resources as often as they wish during the year. Making an exchange is easy. Visit one of our four local centres, book an appointment with the SLS van, or send your resources back to us via the Hampshire education courier service.
Subscribing schools can take part in a variety of events and activities throughout the year. These include Meet the Author events, World Book Day activities and the Hampshire Pupil Librarian of the Year competition.
We also invite schools to take part in our annual Hampshire Book Awards for Years 1, 4, 5 and 8. These put pupils centre stage by giving them the opportunity to get involved in a major literary event which encourages them to critically read, evaluate and review shortlisted titles.
