Work on new cycling and walking route linking Chandler’s Ford with Chilworth breaks for Christmas

Work by Hampshire County Council on a scheme to improve cycle and pedestrian links between Southampton and Chandler’s Ford will be paused over Christmas and New Year to minimise disruption for local residents

Dec 19 2019

Contractors Mildren will leave the site from Friday 20 December and return and resume work on Thursday 2 January 2020.

Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council and Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, said: “During the down time for this scheme, all traffic management will be removed off site and the footway will be made safe for pedestrian use. This scheme is on track to be completed by Spring 2020.”

Once complete, the £1.14 million scheme, will see a three metre wide, two kilometre long off-road shared use cycleway/footway along Hut Hill. This will link Chandler’s Ford with Chilworth. The route is made up of the southern section of Bournemouth Road and Winchester Road, close to Hampshire Corporate Business Park and passes over the M27 motorway to connect with the northern end of The Avenue.

These schemes are being jointly developed and delivered by Hampshire County Council and Southampton City Council and funded in part from the Government’s Transforming Cities Fund awarded to the area.
