Listed alongside Barcelona, La Rochelle and Moscow, Hampshire has been selected for the best place to visit ‘for planes, trains, and gin’. The review cites the Farnborough International Air Show, the Bombay Sapphire Distillery at Laverstoke, and the high quality sparkling wine produced at Hambledon and Hattingley Valley as just some of reasons for the global traveller to stop off in Hampshire.
Councillor Mel Kendal, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development, said: “It’s great to see Hampshire on this global list of the best travel destinations for 2018. Those of us who live here already know what a beautiful place Hampshire is and all it has to offer, and we look forward to welcoming new visitors.
“Every year, tourism brings in over £3 billion to Hampshire and, with around 70,000 people employed in this sector in Hampshire, it plays an important role, as a significant contributor to the local economy.”
Hampshire County Council supports tourism throughout the county via Visit Hampshire, working closely with all local authorities, tourism businesses in Hampshire and the national bodies Visit England and Visit Britain. The County Council aims to generate employment, create business opportunities and support the local economy while widening opportunities for culture and recreation.
