Opportunity to see plans for improvements to M27 J9 and Parkway South Roundabout

Local residents and businesses are invited to a public exhibition on Thursday 16 November to see for themselves how Hampshire County Council, working with Highways England, plans to improve Junction 9 of the M27

Nov 9 2017

Councillor Rob Humby, Executive Member for Environment and Transport at Hampshire County Council, said: “I do hope local people will come along and find out more about our plans to improve this busy junction.  We’ve worked hard to design a scheme to reduce traffic congestion, improve access of residents and businesses while supporting future development and we’d like to hear what people think.”

The public exhibition is open from 12 noon to 7pm on Thursday 16 November and will be held at

Solent Hotel (Hambledon Suite)
Rookery Avenue
Whiteley
Fareham, PO15 7AJ

The scheme involves constructing an additional traffic lane on both M27 Junction 9 motorway off-slip roads, on the westbound on-slip road and on the Whiteley Way approach. The existing short left-turn lane on Whiteley Way will also be lengthened and additional lanes will be provided on the northern and southern sections of the roundabout. At Parkway South roundabout a new larger fully signal-controlled roundabout will be provided, with additional lanes on all approaches, on the Parkway exit road and on the roundabout itself.

Councillor Humby continued: “Junction 9 can be really busy during peak periods, particularly on the off-slip roads resulting in delays on the M27.  With 3,500 extra homes planned in the north of Whiteley, its vital improvements are made so that people can access the leisure facilities, Solent Business Park and Segensworth Business Park.  I would encourage people to come along and, as well as seeing our plans, provide us with local knowledge they may have, so we can deliver a scheme that is fit for purpose.”

The funding for this scheme is comprised of £6.6 million from Hampshire County Council, £9.9 million Highways England Growth and Housing Fund and £3 million Highways England Congestion Relief Fund.
