There’s a lighter, brighter more vibrant look to them both, and lots of new things in store, adding so much more for visitors.
Over the last few months, they have been improved as part of our commitment to investing in Hampshire’s libraries to make them more vibrant, modern and welcoming for all.
Behind the familiar doors in Fareham, near the shopping centre, you’ll find a blend of the old and new and a buzz of activity. Alongside the usual wide range of books, you can enjoy free Wifi and internet, and participate in courses and events for children and adults.
It also boasts new features including study pods with mains and USB charging points that are free to use for quiet study, along with an iPad bar.
A chalk wall in the new children’s area at Fareham Library is already proving popular, and a new ‘Love your Library’ coffee shop is now open.
The improvements at Fleet Library, in the Harlington Centre, include self service technology for borrowing and returning items, and a new accessible toilet on the ground floor.
Both libraries will have digital spaces kitted out with IT, coding tools and equipment to help customers develop new skills. If successful, this will be used as a model for other libraries.
Fareham and Fleet libraries already play a vital role in the community and offer so many valuable services to our residents. That’s why it is important that we invest in them to meet the changing demands of customers and make the most of emerging technology. If you’re in the area, we hope you’ll come in and take a look for yourself.
