Libraries

Since the start of this year, Totton and Romsey libraries, and Gosport Discovery Centre have reopened their doors following exciting improvements. By late autumn we will also have installed easy to use self service technology across all of our Library branches making it easy for customers to issue and return stock items quickly and easily. The refurbishment and investment demonstrates the County Council’s commitment to ensuring our libraries remain at the heart of their local communities and forms part of Hampshire’s Library Strategy to 2020.

Totton Library now has two multi-functional community rooms which can be used by local groups and organisations, along with self-service kiosks. New carpets have been fitted, double glazed windows, a new boiler and updated furniture and equipment including air chargers to wirelessly charge mobile phones.

Romsey Library now has a licensed ceremony room, which doubles as a new community room. Customers will also benefit from self service kiosks, and a redesigned information point for easy access to information.

Gosport Discovery Centre customers have been welcomed in to the light and bright community café, which provides a wonderful space to browse the art work and enjoy a light bite. New facilities include bookable meeting rooms for community groups; improved facilities for health clinics; plus a welcoming reception area. Later this year, the service will also be opening a ‘Changing Places’ toilet facility (for people whose needs are not met by standard accessible toilets), as well as an additional accessible toilet.

Next to undergo a refurbishment will be Ringwood library, due in September. During that time, the library space will be improved, self service kiosks installed and some painting carried out.

Watch this space - further refurbishments will following during the autumn and winter across a number of other libraries. These small changes will help make big differences in how the Hampshire Library Service is perceived by its customers and we hope it will encourage a whole new cohort of residents to become library members.
