Your Hampshire

July marks the 70th anniversary of the NHS, and Hampshire Archives and Local Studies will host a special evening event at Hampshire Record Office. Records from hospitals around Hampshire, such as Knowle and Royal Hampshire County, will be among the important archives on display, as well as some fascinating material from what was the Lord Mayor Treloar’s Cripples Hospital and College.

In our Archive of the month, volunteer Amy Humphries tells us why film footage from Teloar’s hospital in the 1920s and 1930s is vital to the preservation of the hospital’s memory, how Treloar’s embodied the spirit of the National Health Service long before its inception in 1948 and why, along with other forgotten gems like it, should be celebrated and remembered also.
