Apprenticeships: Not just for school leavers

More and more career-seekers, some with skills and qualifications already on their CVs, are choosing apprenticeships as the next step to their dream career.

With this in mind, the County Council is welcoming more and more talented and aspirational people to join its Apprenticeship Programme. County Council departments offer apprenticeships at a range of levels, right up to degree level, in a wide range of careers from social care to surveying, and from construction to business administration.

Matt Symonds, Senior Building Surveyor at Hampshire County Council, plans and supervises improvements to schools, such as extensions and refurbishments. He’s recently won a national award for his work coaching more junior surveyors.

Matt began his career with the County Council, as an apprentice – and has now even trained another apprentice who works alongside him. Find out more about Matt’s journey in our short video.
