Focusing on the best of British food with a Hampshire twist, HC3S is highlighting the local produce and ingredients used within school meals, business units, community cafes, coffee shops and visitor attractions.
In Hampshire primary schools, children are being encouraged to take part in a themed event on 5 October with a specially produced menu, which includes Hampshire beef patties, vegetarian meat free balls produced in Ringwood, British potatoes, British peas and carrots, Hampshire watercress salad and New Forest strawberries.
Serveries will be decorated with Union Jack bunting to encourage pupils and staff to get into the swing of the campaign.
Secondary schools will also have British themed dishes, with a regional twist on their menus throughout the fortnight, encouraging pupils to think about the number of miles their favourite foods have travelled.
Community cafés, coffee shops and cafés at visitor attractions, including Hampshire’s country parks and Calshot Activities Centre, will also be producing bespoke and locally sourced food and beverages throughout the fortnight, including coffee blended and roasted in Hampshire
At Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, main courses at the visitor pavilion restaurant will not only include vegetables grown at Hillier’s allotment, but also a pot roast pork dish prepared using pigs that have been reared at the gardens. For those that prefer fish, the team source their trout from local supplier Chalk Stream, and will use Romsey Gold for the beer batter coating for the dish being served during the fortnight.
