This course introduces the key concepts of attachment theory and emotional attachment. It enables practitioners to reflect on the effectiveness of their environment and practice in enabling individual children's emotional and developmental needs to be met.

The Beginners Workshop provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme. This workshop is designed for parents and carers who are in daily contact with children and adults who need Makaton to support communication. This workshop is made up of 4 interactive modules.

Inclusion Team - Training - Makaton Beginner Course

The Beginners Workshop provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme. Sessions include discussing commonly asked questions, hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work. You will learn the signs and symbols for Stages 1 to 4 of the Core Vocabulary.

Inclusion Team - Training - Makaton Enhanced Course

The Enhancement Workshop concentrates on improving and developing signing and symbol skills. You will learn translation skills using signs and symbols. Lectures examine the assessment of users’ needs, adapting communication to suit an individual’s needs and how to develop communication skills. You will revise the signs and symbols you learned on the Foundation Workshop and learn the signs and symbols for Stages 5-8 of the Core Vocabulary.

Inclusion Team - Training - Makaton Follow Up Course

The Follow-Up Workshop helps you to improve and develop your signing and symbol skills and how to use them effectively every day. You will revise the signs and symbols from stages 1-4 you learned during the Beginners’ Workshop and learn the signs and symbols for Stages 5-8 of the Core Vocabulary.

Inclusion Team - Training - Makaton follow up taster session

This Follow Up Taster session is offered to a whole staff team at least 4 months following an Initial Taster training. The emphasis on this training is to learn a further 30 signs and symbols to enhance the initial taster vocabulary. You will learn how to link speech and language therapy reports and day to day activities to the additional signs and symbols used in this training.

Inclusion Team - Training - Makaton Foundation Course

The Foundation Workshop provides a detailed introduction to Makaton and combines a practical approach with theory and technical information. Lectures cover research into sign and symbol use, symbol design themes, the use and purpose of Makaton and an overview of alternative systems of communication. You will learn the signs and symbols for Stages 1-4 and Additional of the Core Vocabulary.

Inclusion Team - Training - Makaton initial taster session

This is a Makaton training opportunity for whole staff teams in their own environments provided by our Hampshire Makaton tutor team. These sessions last approximately one and a half hours and you will learn approximately 30 signs and symbols as well as how to use Makaton.

Inclusion Team - Training - SENCo Induction Training

This one day training is for anyone with an interest in finding out more about the role of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) working with children within the Foundation stage age group. It covers the importance of providing an inclusive environment and offers suggestion and strategies on how this can be achieved. It also provides delegates with a good understanding of the 2014 SEND Code of Practice 0-25 and how it influences this valuable and rewarding role.
