Inclusion Team - Training - Connect, Reflect and Grow (CRG) Training Programme

What is Connect, Reflect and Grow (CRG)?

CRG is an intervention where practitioners are guided to reflect on video clips of their own successful interactions with children in their care. Reflecting on positive moments helps to identify how we, as Early Years practitioners, receive and respond to children’s initiatives and what effect this has on children’s play, behaviour and learning.

Who is CRG for?

Any practitioner working in Early Years settings, childminders, specialist nurseries and reception classes.

What are the benefits?

CRG has been found to be particularly effective when working with children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) as the reflective process of analysing clips helps to slow down and fine-tune observation skills.

Practitioners will:

  • gain a better understanding about what helps and what hinders next steps in learning for the child
  • be energised and reflect more deeply on their own observation skills and professional development

When it is possible for two members of one organisation to attend together, it has been found to be a mutually beneficial support system.

Comments from previous attendees

“I now see when a child makes more subtle initiatives”

“CRG has helped me focus on what I’ve been doing well, rather than the negatives”
