Christmas Quilling at Portchester Library

Friday 1st December 2017

10.00am to 1.00pm

An introduction to 3D paper quilling.

  • Demonstrate winding paper strips into a coil, using a mould and securing them
  • Manipulate and use a comb to create at least six coil shapes/scrolls
  • Arrange and fix coils into a frame or pin to a cork board
  • Complete a free hanging Christmas tree decoration

Quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, curved and glued together to create a decorative design. In this workshop you will learn how to make a paper quilled 3D (free hanging) Christmas tree decoration by gluing the coils and scrolls and arranging them either with a frame or pin them to a cork board.

No previous knowledge is necessary. This is an ideal craft to carry on at home needing minimal materials, tools and space.

Equipment/Materials

Strips of coloured paper 10mm in width. Slotted quilling tool or a toothpick. Tacky glue in a small applicator bottle. Tweezers. Quilling or wide toothed comb. A Christmas themed cookie cutter (plastic or metal) or if you are experienced with quilling then bring a cork board and sewing pins. An apron is also useful to protect your clothing when using glue. Otherwise materials can be purchased on the day for a small fee (see above).
