This talk, led by Basingstoke resident, Professor Eric Anderson, will examine how declining homophobia has lead to a total redevelopment of what it means to be masculine for college and university students today. Using research data drawn from 16-22 year old heterosexual (straight) British males, Dr Anderson highlights that, in addition to homophobia being socially unacceptable, young straight men are kissing, cuddling and loving each other.

He shows that old binaries of 'straight and gay' no longer work for males of this generation and that once taboo sexual practices are no longer stigmatized. Dr Eric Anderson degrees in health, psychology and sociology and has published sixteen books and 70 articles. His often controversial research is regularly featured in international television, print and digital media.

Professor Anderson is also the trustee of the Sport Collision Injury Collective and his interest in sport extends to critiquing organized team sports and writing about the coaching of long distance runners. Professor Anderson's research excellence is recognized by the British Academy of Social Sciences; he is a Visiting Professor at the University of California, Irvine; and he is also a Full-Fellow of the International Academy of Sex Research.
