Wednesdays 10th January to 21st March 2018

7.00pm to 9.00pm

This course aims to provide something for everyone. For the beginner who wants to learn about the basics of portraiture or for the more experienced ones who want the chance to experiment and wish to receive constructive criticism.

  • Analyse, synthesize and represent a face objectively
  • Be able to create the adequate backgrounds and compositions
  • Measure and understand proportions
  • Understand how colours, lines and tones can affect dramatically the meaning of a portrait
  • Acquire general knowledge about past and contemporary artists
  • You will face, copy, understand and learn different artistic styles

We will work and understand portraiture through examples from well-known artists, about the art of portraiture, and how different artists used different techniques, styles and epoques. We will divide the course in two sections. Each section will contain a number of fun and instructive exercises. After each exercise, we will analyse and discuss the results, and constructive criticism will be provided.

For the first 5 weeks please bring material from the requirement list available at the library. The following 5 weeks we will move to colour either pastel or acrylic. Tutor will advise.
