Adoption Services for Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Southampton and Portsmouth councils
Adopt South is the Regional Adoption Agency bringing together four local authorities, providing improved outcomes for children who need secure and loving homes to flourish and be part of a family forever.
We can help answer your questions about:
COVID-19
On behalf of Hampshire County, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth City and Southampton City local authorities, Rachel Reynolds, Head of Adopt South, has provided an update on the Regional Adoption Agency’s service during the COVID-19 situation.
Adopt South's announcement - January 2021
Adopt South is dedicated to supporting your adoption journey
We are open
Since March 2020, we have been using several remote communication tools to ensure that adoptions across our region continue, as well as to enable individuals and couples to start their adoption journey.
We have recently returned to conducting some face to face home visits and assessments under the strict Government COVID-19 safety guidelines. We are continuing to conduct some face to face home visits and assessments under the strict Government COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Whilst some Post Adoption Support meet-ups and workshops have resumed with COVID-19 safety arrangements in place, these continue to be reviewed regularly.
Decisions about whether programmes are delivered face to face or virtually will depend on the Government Guidance at the time and the specific content of the programme.
We can talk to you
Please call, email or direct message us. Our adoption enquiry team can help you with discovery and the sharing of insights about adoption. And when you are ready to share more information with us, we can begin to learn about your desire to give a child or children a forever family.
Adoption is easier than you think. A forever family can happen in six months.
The disruption caused by COVID-19 has resulted in making our service even more agile, offering new ways to support you with more flexibility to be able to respond more efficiently to your needs. This includes an opportunity to talk to one of our adopters directly on the phone, and view our Adoption Information Sessions remotely on a device in your own time at home.
Your adoption journey will continue
For those of you already in Stage 1 and Stage 2 of the adoption process, we are using online resources and video calling. All our applicants are continuing with their development pathway with some COVID-19 safe face-to-face meetings being organised.
We really hope that if you have been thinking about adoption, you will contact us. Our adopters range from being single, LGBT+, in a relationship and are all ages. There is a lot of assistance available, including Government support in the form of Universal Credit, Child Benefit and funded childcare.
All sections of our society can adopt
We need special people like you to love and care for children to help them flourish and grow as part of a family that can give them all the attention and stability they need.
Our social media channels including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram offer many insights from adopters including videos and podcasts (please see the bottom of this page for links).
In this time of uncertainty, we trust you and your loved ones remain safe and well.
