Look after others by looking after yourself. If your staff offer direct patient or client care to vulnerable patients in any of the following groups, it’s important to get vaccinated against flu:
- anyone aged 65 and over
- pregnant women
- children and adults with an underlying health condition (such as long-term heart or respiratory disease)
- children and adults with weakened immune systems
This will help to reduce spread of the virus to patients, work colleagues and the wider community. Frontline health and social care staff are eligible for a free vaccination at the GP surgery or pharmacy. Having your jab prevents the spread of infection, helps to maintain a resilient workforce throughout the winter months and keeps elderly and vulnerable patients safe from the potentially serious complications of flu. It also reduces NHS winter pressures so make sure you book your jab and encourage your colleagues to do the same.
