Healthy food and holiday activities (HAF) - Isle of Wight

Supporting Community based organisations providing heathy and enriching activities and healthy meals

The Department for Education (DfE) provides funding to local authorities to coordinate a programme that provides healthy food and activities to children eligible for benefits-related Free School during school holidays for a 3-year period.

Who is eligible

All children on the Isle of Wight, who receive benefits-related free school meals, who are open to Social Care or who have an EHCP or SEND.

On 11 April we launched our open Framework with Hampshire County Council and are inviting applications from a wide network of community-based organisations, including existing holiday care providers, schools, childminders, sports coaching, creative and performing arts providers and many others. Healthy meals must also be provided, and each activity session must last for a minimum of four hours a day, for at least four days a week for:

  • one week at Easter
  • four weeks in the summer, and
  • a week at Christmas

All children in Hampshire and on the Isle of Wight, who receive benefits related Free School Meals will be eligible to take part in the activities. 15% of places can be made available to other vulnerable children, as defined by the Council.

Who is eligible

The Council is seeking applications from organisations interested in joining an open framework to provide HAF places and specialist HAF schemes from 2022 to 2025, with an option to extend to 2027.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate an ability to deliver:

  • high quality enriching activities
  • provide healthy meals
  • skills, activities/classes aimed at helping children and their parents to make healthy and affordable choices
  • a positive legacy that lasts longer than the experience
