Assessments by the Communication and Interaction Team

What happens at an assessment
Assessments are informal. When we have received the consent and the referral, we will book a consultation meeting with the school online via Teams.
We will meet with the Special Education Needs Coordinator (SENCo) and/or school staff to assess the support your child or young person needs to access learning function within their environment.
Contact the Education and Inclusion Therapy Team for information about formal assessment of speech, language and communication needs.

After the assessment
The SENCo is sent a summary of our meeting and recommendations.
We expect the school to implement our recommendations via a 'plan-do-review' cycle.

Next steps
After the consultation meeting, we may:
- signpost SENCos to training, resources or other services
- provide advice to be implemented using a 'plan-do-review' cycle
- where appropriate, provide a support package for a set period of time, potentially covering your child's transition to a new school
